About The Position

UVA Health is seeking a wage Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Employee/Occupational Health team, supporting the health and safety of our workforce. This role is central to the institution's response to on-the-job incidents, proactively safeguarding employee safety, and management of communicable disease exposures among team members.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
  • Department and unit specific experience.
  • License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years experience in an internal medicine or primary care setting.
  • Comfort working in an autonomous practice environment.
  • Experience working with occupational health and/or worker's compensation patient populations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting urgent employee visits related to on-the-job incidents
  • Fielding and responding to calls regarding team member exposures
  • Assessing exposure risk and ordering post-exposure prophylaxis as clinically indicated
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of institutional protocols related to team member safety
  • Providing critical clinical and system support during communicable disease outbreaks
  • Participating in an on-call rotation for exposure response
  • Evaluate and manage urgent employee visits related to on-the-job incidents
  • Field and respond to calls regarding team member exposures
  • Assess exposure risk and order post-exposure prophylaxis as clinically indicated
  • Provide direct clinical care and coverage during the on-call exposure response rotation
  • Deliver clinical support during communicable disease outbreaks
  • Document patient encounters and exposure incidents accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal reporting requirements related to occupational exposures and incidents
  • Coordinate care and follow-up with relevant departments (e.g., Infection Prevention, Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety)
  • Track and manage exposure cases through resolution
  • Maintain current clinical knowledge and competency in occupational health, exposure management, and post-exposure prophylaxis guidelines
  • Participate in ongoing education and training relevant to team member safety and communicable disease response
  • Uphold professional standards of practice consistent with APP licensure and UVA Health policy
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, APPs, nursing, and administrative staff across departments
  • Help develop and maintain institutional protocols related to team member safety
  • Provide system-level support and guidance during communicable disease outbreaks
  • Serve as a clinical resource and point of contact for exposure-related questions across the institution
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within Employee/Occupational Health
