About The Position

Sentara Medical Group is seeking an NP or PA with Obesity Medicine/ Internal Medicine or Family Practice/Endocrinology setting experience to join the Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions- Kempsville team. This is a hybrid model position, involving a mix of in-person patient care and telehealth. The role focuses on providing evidence-based care for patients seeking weight loss options, including medication management with FDA-approved anti-obesity medications, identifying influencing OTC medications/supplements/vitamins, assigning meal plans, providing diet/nutrition counseling, identifying barriers to medication adherence, and utilizing behavior change counseling techniques through motivational interviewing. The provider will advise on the benefits of intensive, comprehensive treatment and lifestyle modifications, incorporating cultural considerations, and problem-solving patient barriers. Referrals to services addressing social barriers (SNAP, WIC, Behavioral Therapy, PT/OT/Speech, and other medical specialties) will be made as needed. Maintaining professional credentials and participating in continuing education in obesity medicine, evaluating new scientific evidence, and assessing emerging treatments are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • NP or PA with Obesity Medicine/ Internal Medicine or Family Practice/Endocrinology setting experience
  • 1-2 years of experience highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence based care for patients seeking weight loss options with medication management using FDA approved anti-obesity medications
  • Ability to identify OTC medications/supplements/vitamins that may influence weight
  • Assign meal plan along with diet/nutrition counseling
  • Identify barriers to medication adherence
  • Use behavior change counseling techniques when formulating treatment plan with patient through motivational interviewing
  • Advise of benefits of intensive, comprehensive treatment and lifestyle modifications while incorporating cultural considerations into treatment plans
  • Problem-solve with patients to address barriers to treatment
  • Refer to services to address social barriers (SNAP, WIC, Behavioral Therapy, PT/OT/Speech and other medical specialties as needed.)
  • Maintain professional credentials
