About The Position

Sentara Medical Group is seeking an NP or PA with Obesity Medicine, Internal/Family Medicine, or Endocrinology experience to join the Comprehensive Weight Loss Solutions- Kempsville team. This position involves providing evidence-based care for patients seeking weight loss options, including medication management with FDA-approved anti-obesity medications, and identifying other influences on weight. The role requires identifying barriers to medication adherence, using behavior change counseling techniques and motivational interviewing, assigning meal plans, and providing diet/nutrition counseling. The provider will educate patients on intensive treatment and lifestyle modifications, incorporating cultural considerations, and problem-solve barriers to treatment, referring to services for social barriers as needed. Maintaining professional credentials and participating in continuing education in obesity medicine are also key aspects, along with evaluating new scientific evidence in obesity in partnership with collaborating physicians and peers.

Requirements

  • NP or PA with Obesity Medicine, Internal/Family Medicine, or Endocrinology experience

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence based care for patients seeking weight loss options with medication management using FDA approved anti-obesity medications, and ability to identify OTC medications/supplements/vitamins that may influence weight
  • Identify barriers to medication adherence and use behavior change counseling techniques when formulating treatment plan with patient through motivational interviewing
  • Assign meal plan along with diet/nutrition counseling
  • Educate patients on benefits of intensive, comprehensive treatment and lifestyle modifications while incorporating cultural considerations into treatment plans
  • Problem-solve with patients to address barriers to treatment and refer to services to address social barriers (SNAP, WIC, Behavioral Therapy, PT/OT/Speech and other medical specialties as needed.)
  • Maintain professional credentials
  • Participate in continuing education in obesity medicine
  • Evaluate new and emerging scientific evidence in obesity in partnership with collaborating Physician and peers
