About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant, under general direction, provides patient care, evaluations, and treatment. Diagnoses, treats, and prescribes certain medications for illnesses and injuries.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing or in PA studies or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP), licensed Registered Nurse (RN), and CPR certified.
  • Must be licensed to practice in the State of Texas

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of family practice experience as a Nurse Practitioner/PA.
  • Experience managing technology resources related to learning management systems, including evaluating its effectiveness for end users and planning for future improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care, assessments, counseling, preparation, and treatment.
  • Documents patient care.
  • Prescribes medicines upon diagnoses of illness or injury, under the direction of a physician and within the limitations of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant regulations.
  • Maintains and monitors patient records, assesses health care needs, and provides patient education.
  • Interprets labs.
  • Performs follow-up care in conjunction with other nursing staff.
  • Acts as a health resource to the campus community. Assists in planning and promoting health outreach activities. Provides health education to university organizations as needed.
  • Assesses real and/or potential health hazards related to current health status, including analysis or risky behaviors that contribute to a student’s health status.
  • This position will report medically to the medical director and non-medically to the clinic director.
