About The Position

Join a highly specialized cardiothoracic surgery team as a Cardiac Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA). This role is critical in both the OR and inpatient settings, offering a unique one week on / one week off schedule with full-time pay. The position involves assisting in cardiothoracic surgeries, vein harvests, second assist open-heart procedures, managing inpatient and ER consults, performing pre-operative assessments and post-operative care, entering orders, managing inpatient treatment plans, and daily rounding. This is a high-impact, hands-on surgical role in a fast-paced OR environment with approximately 5-10 cardiac surgeries per week. It offers a great opportunity for work-life balance.

Requirements

  • NP or PA
  • RNFA certification (for NP candidates)
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • <2 years experience
  • Nurse Practitioner license
  • RN license

Nice To Haves

  • Saphenous vein harvesting
  • Cardiothoracic surgery exposure
  • Complete the didactic portion of the RNFA class, and 120 supervised clinical hours.
  • CNOR is encouraged but not required due to being an APRN.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries

  • Perform pre-operative assessments and post-operative care
  • Enter orders and manage inpatient treatment plans
  • Daily rounding
  • Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member.
  • Pre-operatively performs a focused nursing assessment in reference to planned procedure.
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Identifies and communicates desired patient outcomes throughout the perioperative continuum.
  • Monitors patients response and modifies plan of care accordingly.
  • Administers Medications according to standard nursing practice.
  • Develops and manages an individual plan of care that directs the intervention(s) of the RNFA.
  • Implements, manages, and coordinates the perioperative plan of care related to RNFA interventions.
  • Evaluates patient progress towards attaining outcomes.
  • Systematically evaluates quality of nursing practice.
  • Participates in professional development and life long learning.
  • Seeks out and participates in learning opportunities.
  • Evaluates their practice in context with current professional practice standards, rules and regulations.
  • Contributes to the professional growth of peers, colleagues and others.
  • Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient and family education.
  • Incorporates research findings into practice.
  • Practices in an ethical manner using available resources to formulate ethical decisions.
  • Advocates for individuals and groups related to perioperative health safety.
  • Provides leadership in the profession and professional practice setting.
  • Manages the health care of select patient populations through advanced health assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician.
  • Prescriptive responsibilities are reviewed by collaborative physician.
  • Functions as a member of the surgical team and contribute to the overall efficiency of the peri-operative department.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, the environments, and the cost in planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
