About The Position

The University of Washington Medical Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is looking for a full-time Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C) for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. UW Medicine is the premier academic medical center in Washington state, encompasses 4 hospitals in the Seattle metro area and is the primary referral hospital for the five-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho) region. The department supports a residency program, four fellowship programs, including Gynecologic Oncology, and is a major teaching site for UW medical students. This is a full-time, 12 month (July 1 - June 30) academic position on a yearly appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Requirements

  • Current and valid state Registered Nurse Licensure for ARNP or Physician Assistant Licensure.
  • Graduate Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or accredited PA program and licensure as an ARNP or PA-C.
  • Nationally certified ARNP/PA-C with DEA.
  • Experience working with medically complex patients.
  • Clinical teaching experience.
  • Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in patient care.
  • Previous APP experience of at least 1-2 years necessary.
  • All candidates must be eligible for and able to maintain a Washington State medical license.
  • The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service and all candidates will be expected to provide medical services at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals, train residents and medical students, and make academic contributions to the field.

  • Prior experience in Women’s Health and/or Oncology highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provides evaluation and medical management to Gynecology Oncology patients.
  • Follows patients during their chemotherapy and radiation, providing medical supportive care, postoperative care, as well as surveillance after completion of treatment.
  • Works collaboratively with the treatment team to coordinate care of their patients.
  • Independently performs complex and problem-focused H & P’s.
  • Understands the biology and natural history of common cancers.
  • Provides patient education about the natural history and available treatment.
  • Evaluates and manages patients on cancer treatment.
  • Provides patient care for treatment-related side effects, as well as long-term surveillance and survivorship issues.
  • Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice.
  • Collaborates and consults with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of care.
  • Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research.
  • Communicates changes in patient’s health status to the patient’s primary oncologist.
  • Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees.
  • Actively participates in the development and maintenance of patient management algorithms and standing orders.
  • Documents patient care data in Epic in accordance with the UWP policies.
  • Evaluates the physical and psychological state of the cancer patient.
  • Provides support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching, counseling and rehabilitation as well as referring patients to community agencies to promote optimal adjustment and functioning.
  • Teach and mentor new ARNP or PA-C staff & PA and/or NP students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
