About The Position

UVA Health is hiring an Advanced Practice Provider for its inpatient orthopedic surgery practice at a leading academic medical center. The role provides specialized care to orthopedic perioperative and trauma patients during acute hospitalization, supporting recovery milestones and discharge readiness. APPs work closely with attending orthopedic surgeons, residents, interns, fellow APPs, and interdisciplinary teams in a high-volume, team-based environment. The position is exclusively inpatient and does not include surgical assisting responsibilities. A structured coverage model includes 2–3 APPs per shift. Candidates may be considered for part-time work (two 12-hour shifts) or full-time work (three 12-hour shifts plus one additional shift per month). The schedule has no call, no weekends, and major holidays off, with flexible, collaborative scheduling and time-off management. The APP provides evidence-based, top-of-scope clinical care; educates patients; maintains accurate documentation and regulatory compliance; contributes to specialty best practices, protocols, and quality improvement; educates learners and mentors new team members; follows up on patient and team communications; and participates in team development and professional activities. Candidates must be graduates of an accredited graduate nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree and meet applicable Virginia and UVA Health licensure, credentialing, and certification requirements. A cover letter is requested. Background checks and pre-employment health screenings are conducted for new hires; safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
