About The Position

This position supports breast cancer patients throughout their cancer journey, from diagnosis to survivorship. The Advanced Practice Provider will work Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with no on-call duties or weekend work. The role is based at the UVA Health Breast Care Center in Pantops and will collaborate with 2-3 Medical breast oncologists. Prior experience in oncology, chemotherapy, women's health, or advanced practice is beneficial. OCN, CBCN, or AOCNP certification is a plus. Background checks, pre-employment health screenings, and drug screens are required for this safety-sensitive position with direct patient interaction.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.
  • Department and unit specific experience.
  • License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia.
  • If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.
  • Standing for prolonged periods.
  • Frequently bending/stooping.
  • Reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive).
  • Repetitive motion: computer keyboard.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.
  • May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for medical breast oncology patients in an ambulatory setting.
  • Perform routine follow-up visits for patients on chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal therapies.
  • Evaluate patients requiring acute symptom management.
  • Manage patients in longitudinal survivorship post-treatment.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including research coordinators, social workers, lymphedema therapists, dieticians, surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists.
  • Perform and document history & physical exams, and analyze clinical data to form well-developed differential diagnoses.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, following patient responses, and adjusting the plan of care based on ongoing objective and subjective data collection.
  • Identify appropriate sub-specialist consultation.
  • Effectively communicate plans of care with patients, families, nurses, and other stakeholders; and navigate complex psychosocial dynamics.
  • Participate within the organizational systems of the service, unit, and institution, initiatives that promote and contribute to the development of the APP, RN, and other colleagues.
  • Evaluate/augment quality initiatives to benefit quality of care and patient safety.
  • Investigate, utilize, communicate, and participate in the development and utilization of scientific knowledge via research and Evidence-Based Practice.
  • Engage in process improvement and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate individual clinical practice and role performance via regulatory, state, and institutional guidelines.
  • Professionally lead other members of the care team in a dynamic environment.
