About The Position

Clinica Sierra Vista is seeking an Advanced Practitioner (NP/PA) to provide medical services for its patients. The role involves patient evaluation, including histories and physical examinations for children, adults, and the elderly. The practitioner will develop diagnoses, consult with physicians when needed, and order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic measures. Responsibilities also include participating in diagnostic procedures such as anoscopy, pelvic exams, pap smears, and interpreting electrocardiograms and chest X-rays, as well as drawing venous blood. The position is part-time and located in South Bakersfield.

Requirements

  • Valid license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Ability to perform patient evaluations, including histories and physical examinations.
  • Skill in developing diagnoses and differential diagnoses.
  • Proficiency in ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (laboratory, X-ray, ECG).
  • Experience with diagnostic procedures (anoscopy, pelvic exams, pap smears).
  • Ability to draw venous blood.
  • Competence in patient counseling regarding health issues and treatment plans.
  • Skill in performing therapeutic and preventive maneuvers (IUDs, diaphragms, suturing, casting).
  • Good interpersonal abilities with patients and associates.
  • Willingness to participate in clinical activities across all clinic sites.
  • Commitment to continuing education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting.
  • Experience treating vulnerable populations.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical services for patients.
  • Conduct patient evaluations, including histories (brief and thorough) for children, adults, and the elderly.
  • Perform physical examinations (focused or thorough).
  • Develop diagnoses or differential diagnoses.
  • Consult with Physician when needed.
  • Order laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic measures.
  • Participate in diagnostic maneuvers such as anoscopy, pelvic examination, pap smears, and electrocardiography.
  • Interpret chest X-rays.
  • Draw venous blood when needed.
  • Evaluate patients for medication utilization or other therapeutic or preventative measures.
  • Counsel patients regarding health problems, diagnostic tests, and preventative/therapeutic steps.
  • Suggest and help implement referrals when indicated.
  • Perform therapeutic and preventive maneuvers including IUD insertion/removal, fitting diaphragms, suturing lacerations, and applying casts for minor fractures.
  • Collaborate with Clinica’s physicians per granted privileges.
  • Participate in clinical activities in all clinic sites on a scheduled basis.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal abilities with patients and associates.
  • Participate in clinical consultations with associates and continuing education.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
