This position works under the supervision of a Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician Manager, or Pharmacist Manager. The Advanced Pharmacy Technician (APT) performs job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies, procedures, performance improvement objectives, and environmental/infection control standards. The role involves coordinating daily workflow, providing leadership to other technicians, making sound decisions, and maintaining competency in multiple areas. The APT serves as a knowledge and training resource for specific areas, routinely working to improve these areas. They provide prompt and courteous service by receiving incoming calls and prioritizing requests. Participation in teaching activities, including precepting other healthcare professionals, is expected. The role also involves actively enhancing personal growth and development through educational programs and training. Maintaining a clean, orderly, and appropriately stocked work environment is crucial. The APT audits and signs out controlled substances, identifies and corrects discrepancies, and removes expired medications. They consistently work and problem-solve independently with minimal supervision. A significant portion of their time (80%) is dedicated to one or a combination of advanced pharmacy technician concentration areas, such as Controlled Substance, Operating Room, Buyer, Procurement, & Technology Optimization, Sterile & Hazardous Compounding, or Investigational Drug Services.
