About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Secondary Learning and Innovation, the Advanced Pathways Specialist plays a critical role in realizing KIPP Atlanta's commitment to a Transformative Scholar Experience. This leader is directly responsible for expanding gifted and advanced coursework opportunities and developing clear high school pathways for scholars to explore a range of interests. The Specialist ensures that programmatic design, curriculum, and instructional practices provide equitable access to rigorous learning. This includes leading the regional strategy for advanced math pathways (including compliance with the Math Matters Act), overseeing the expansion of Advanced Placement (AP) offerings at the high school level, and formalizing gifted identification and support systems across the K-12 continuum. By partnering with Assistant Principals, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders, the Specialist builds regional capacity to sustain high-quality advanced academic programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Valid Georgia Teaching or Service Certificate (Level 4 or higher)
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of successful classroom teaching with a demonstrated impact in advanced, gifted, or AP coursework.
  • Experience in instructional coaching and/or school-based leadership.
  • Demonstrated skill with data-driven instruction, progress monitoring, and translating data into adult action.
  • Working knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence, and ability to support standards-aligned planning and rigorous task design.
  • Strong knowledge of the principles and practices of gifted education and advanced academic pathways.
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and adult learning skills; ability to build trust and influence across stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage complexity, ambiguity, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Valid Georgia Gifted In-Field Endorsement.
  • Experience in charter and experience leading cross-campus initiatives.
  • Valid Georgia educator leadership certification.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the execution of regional priorities focused on expanding advanced academic programming and ensuring a rigorous, holistic scholar experience.
  • Lead the regional strategy and compliance for advanced math pathways, ensuring equitable access in middle school that seamlessly connects to higher-level high school coursework.
  • Develop and expand clear, viable high school pathways that allow scholars to explore specific interests and build postsecondary readiness.
  • Consult with school leaders on problem-solving, change management, and the design of school-wide systems that enable the adoption and success of advanced specialty programs.
  • Analyze multi-source student performance data to identify trends, evaluate the effectiveness of advanced programming, and set measurable action steps to close access or achievement gaps.
  • Provide job-embedded coaching to Assistant Principals, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders to ensure rigorous, standards-aligned instruction within gifted, AP, and advanced courses.
  • Conduct classroom walkthroughs and learning walks to evaluate the rigor, curriculum fidelity, and effectiveness of instructional routines for advanced learners.
  • Anchor coaching in equity-driven practices that ensure all learners are appropriately challenged and supported without lowering instructional rigor.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school-based instructional teams to design and execute robust plans for implementing advanced program models.
  • Design and facilitate high-impact professional learning for internal and external stakeholders to deepen their understanding of gifted instructional best practices and AP pedagogy.
  • Build the capacity of school leaders to support teachers with program-specific learning, ensuring district-wide advanced pathways are prioritized at the campus level.
  • Facilitate communities of practice to deepen content knowledge and instructional strategies for teachers leading advanced and gifted pathways.
  • Develop tools and frameworks that enable instructional leaders to effectively observe and coach advanced coursework instruction.
  • Oversee the testing and identification processes for students eligible for gifted services across the region.
  • Support the strategic expansion of AP offerings at the high school, ensuring strong curriculum enactment and alignment with postsecondary readiness goals.
  • Coordinate curriculum review to ensure appropriate rigor and differentiation to meet the unique needs of gifted and advanced learners across all content areas.
  • Monitor scholar progress toward defined milestones in advanced courses to inform programmatic adjustments and ensure alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence.
