About The Position

Cisco Silicon One is seeking an Advanced Packaging Design Engineering Team Leader to lead complex package design programs and the San Jose package design team. The role drives package programs from planning and optimization through execution and tapeout, delivering high-speed, robust, scalable package solutions aligned with system-level requirements and manufacturing needs. The team works on advanced IC package design and heterogeneous system integration, including substrates using 2.5D fanout technologies. The leader will collaborate with layout, signal integrity, power integrity, silicon architecture, and manufacturing partners; provide technical direction and mentorship; coordinate resources across designers, layout editors, and contractors; and develop the team’s package design capabilities. The role also contributes to improved methodologies and development flows, vendor partnerships, cross-functional collaboration, and innovative package solutions for next-generation ASIC platforms. The position requires living within commuting distance of Cisco’s San Jose, California office and commuting there 4–5 days per week.

  • Experience in high-speed package design, including signal integrity considerations and power distribution networks (PDN).
  • Experience with industry-standard EDA tools for package layout and design.
  • Experience providing technical leadership in complex hardware or silicon development programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience in ASIC package design, including pinout optimization and high-speed routing.
  • Knowledge of silicon floor planning and strong collaboration with signal integrity and power integrity teams.
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams and developing technical talent.
  • Experience coordinating complex cross-functional hardware development programs.
  • Experience with testing and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes and TDR/VNA analyzers.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, TCL, or shell programming.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex package design programs, planning and driving schedules from concept through implementation and tapeout.
  • Optimize package pinouts, stack-ups, power distribution, and high-speed routing while balancing performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with silicon floor-planning, signal integrity, and power integrity teams to ensure design quality and system-level alignment.
  • Work with layout editors and implementation teams to deliver package layouts aligned with interface and manufacturing requirements.
  • Lead the San Jose package design team, providing direction, mentorship, and technical guidance to engineers.
  • Develop the team’s package design capability and mentor engineers to take ownership of increasingly complex programs.
  • Coordinate resources across designers, layout editors, and contractors to support project execution.
  • Enhance package design methodologies and work with vendors to improve product quality and efficiency.
  • Drive innovation in package solutions for Cisco’s next-generation ASIC platforms.
