About The Position

The Advanced Nursing Extern provides patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Duties are limited to those within the scope of practice for unlicensed health care providers acting under a licensed nurse, as defined by the Alabama Board of Nursing. The role supports the Nursing department through selected technical skills, data collection, and laboratory specimen collection. Additional duties may be assigned when they are within the scope of the role. The position is based at Baptist Medical Center South and is PRN, working first shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Must have completed Fundamentals of Nursing Care, Pharmacology, and Medication Administration in nursing school.
• BLS certification required.
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software.
• Strong team leadership, organization, interpersonal, and customer relations skills.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and proficient computer skills.
• Proven track record of successful performance.
• Ability to understand complex multifactor situations and develop appropriate solutions.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties within the scope of practice for unlicensed health care providers acting under a licensed nurse, as defined by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• Support the Nursing department with selected technical skills, data collection, and laboratory specimen collection.
• Perform additional duties assigned within the scope of the role.
