About The Position

The Advanced Mold Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing most mold and molding-related issues. Works with minimal supervision, supports production continuity, and tackles complex PM tasks. This position reports to the Plastics Engineering Manager and is part of the Plastics Manufacturing Engineering Team located in Indianapolis, IN and will be an on-site role. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Comprehensive mold maintenance and repair, including full teardowns, diagnostics, corrective repairs (ejector, cooling, alignment, part-detail surfaces), intermediate machining/welding, and hot runner system support. Troubleshooting and resolution of molding and process-related issues, such as flash, short shots, gas burn, part sticking, and visual defects to ensure consistent part quality. Collaboration and leadership, partnering with engineering on corrective actions and mold improvement projects while training and mentoring technicians in best-practice mold repair.

Requirements

  • AA Degree with 3+ years experience, preferably in mold maintenance and/or a tool room setting.
  • Strong technical foundation in mold systems (such as mold design and function, cooling layouts, parting surfaces, alignment systems) and the ability to accurately read prints, tolerances, and tooling specifications.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and hands-on capability across mechanical and electrical systems, with the ability to work safely and independently on complex maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 50 lbs, any other physical requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated technical leadership, including the ability to lead complex mold repairs, support troubleshooting efforts on the floor, mentor T1–T2 technicians, and serve as a technical resource for production and engineering.
  • Strong computer and documentation skills, with experience using CMMS or mold tracking systems, Microsoft Excel/Outlook, and creating clear repair histories, corrective actions, and improvement recommendations.
  • Continuous improvement and problem-solving orientation, including participation in root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, and collaboration with engineering on mold performance, reliability, and uptime improvements.
