About The Position

Axon’s NPI teams develop products from initial design through reliable, scalable production. The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer II develops and improves manufacturing processes, equipment, and factory layouts, partnering with Design Engineering, NPI, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and manufacturing partners to identify risks early, resolve technical issues, and prepare products and processes for production. This role is suited to an engineer who collaborates to solve problems and can independently manage defined manufacturing engineering projects and workstreams, engaging senior engineers when broader technical leadership is needed. The position is onsite and has no direct reports. It reports to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or a related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience, with at least 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, NPI, process, or automation engineering; alternatively, a Master’s degree with at least 4 years of experience.
  • Experience supporting product development builds, manufacturing process development, or production scale-up.
  • Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles, with the ability to apply them in partnership with Design Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment, process development, fixture design, or factory layout.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, Creo, or comparable CAD tools.
  • Proficiency with statistical and quality methods such as DOE, GR&R, SPC, and process capability analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to investigating process and equipment issues.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work across engineering, operations, quality, and external equipment partners.
  • Ability to manage assigned projects and deliverables with appropriate guidance and escalation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop manufacturing processes, equipment, fixtures, and line layouts that meet cost, ergonomic, quality, and cycle-time requirements.
  • Partner with Design Engineering and NPI teams to identify and address manufacturability, assembly, test, quality, and cost risks throughout product development.
  • Support prototype and validation builds, including build preparation, equipment and process readiness, issue resolution, and documentation of results.
  • Own assigned manufacturing engineering projects and workstreams, coordinating deliverables and communicating progress, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis to equipment and process issues; implement and verify corrective actions.
  • Lead process characterization and optimization using DOE, SPC, and other data-driven methodologies.
  • Analyze production and test data to identify trends, variation, yield issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Create and maintain process documentation, including process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, work instructions, and validation records.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, contract manufacturers, joint development manufacturers, and equipment suppliers on process capability, equipment requirements, and build readiness.
  • Support manufacturing quality methods such as measurement system analysis, GR&R, SPC, and inspection planning.
  • Escalate significant technical risks and issues, clearly explaining impact, options, and recommended next steps.
  • Share findings and lessons learned to improve manufacturing readiness across NPI programs.
