Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering team takes new ideas from theory to reality. Every day, we develop advanced energy management and propulsion technologies, create cutting-edge materials and manufacturing processes, and curate world-class cabin experiences that redefine what it means to drive a Ford. In this position, the Controls Research Engineer will develop control systems for gasoline and hybrid powertrains and sub-systems, including Air, Fuel, Spark, EGR and aftertreatment. They will employ advanced control methods (examples: Model Predictive Control, Adaptive Control, Optimal Control) and signal processing techniques for new powertrain technologies and to improve existing control system performance and robustness. This role involves developing models and simulations to support system characterization, control design, implementation and validation, as well as developing engine diagnostics for OBD regulation. The engineer will collect and analyze experimental engine and vehicle data, design experiments to support validation of engine control systems, and provide input for engine and vehicle instrumentation. Algorithms will be implemented into embedded controller code in C language, leveraging software version control in clearcase and Git Hub.
