Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering team takes new ideas from theory to reality. Every day, we develop advanced energy management and propulsion technologies, create cutting-edge materials and manufacturing processes, and curate world-class cabin experiences that redefine what it means to drive a Ford. In this position, the Controls Research Engineer will develop control systems for gasoline and hybrid powertrains and sub-systems, including Air, Fuel, Spark, EGR and aftertreatment. They will employ advanced control methods (examples: Model Predictive Control, Adaptive Control, Optimal Control) and signal processing techniques for new powertrain technologies and to improve existing control system performance and robustness. This role involves developing models and simulations to support system characterization, control design, implementation and validation, developing engine diagnostics for OBD regulation, collecting and analyzing experimental engine and vehicle data, designing experiments to support validation of engine control systems, providing input for engine and vehicle instrumentation, and implementing algorithms into embedded controller code C language. Leveraging software version control in clearcase, Git Hub is also a key aspect of this role.
