This position involves rendering basic and advanced life support procedures to patients in various settings, consistent with state and local operating protocols. The role requires the ability to work a variety of shift lengths, including 12-48 hour shifts, on-call shifts, and standby/special events. Responsibilities include providing accurate oral reports, assisting in extricating trapped victims, and transporting sick and injured persons. The technician must be competent in age-specific treatment protocols and able to read, understand, and converse in English, navigate using road maps, and discern street signs and address numbers. The role demands good judgment and calmness in high-stress situations, working in environments with loud noises and flashing lights. Key duties include lifting and placing patients on stretchers, restraining patients, lifting loaded stretchers into an ambulance with safe lifting procedures, performing airway interventions, vital signs, blood glucose measurement, patient-specific treatments, monitoring, and interventions such as CPR, IV/IO access, defibrillation, medication administration, and mechanical ventilation as per protocols. The technician will observe, record, and report patient conditions and reactions, direct and coordinate patient care with other agencies and personnel, and drive the ambulance safely. Communication with physicians and medical personnel via radio or telephone is essential. All reports, including patient care records, must be completed legibly, accurately, and by the end of the shift or within 24 hours. Daily chores, including vehicle inspection, must be completed. All duties are to be performed in a safe, courteous, confidential, and professional manner, prioritizing patient well-being. The role also involves mentoring and training fellow staff, maintaining response readiness, and participating in required training, meetings, and skills days. Use of safety and PPE equipment is mandatory. Assistance in the Emergency Department with triage, patient care, and assignments within the provider's scope of practice is also required.
