About The Position

This position renders basic and advanced life support procedures to patients in a variety of settings consistent with state and local operating protocols. The technician must be able to work a variety of shift lengths, including 12-48 hour shifts, on-call shifts, and standby/special events of varying hours. They will provide accurate oral reports to designated medical personnel, assist in extricating trapped victims, and transport sick and injured persons to the appropriate health care facility. Competency in age-specific treatment protocols is required. The role demands the ability to read, understand, and converse in English, interpret road maps, and accurately discern street signs and address numbers. Good judgment and calmness in high-stress situations, along with the ability to work in environments with loud noises and flashing lights, are essential. The technician will perform tasks such as lifting and placing patients on a stretcher, restraining patients appropriately, and moving a loaded stretcher into an ambulance while practicing safe lifting procedures. Specific medical duties include performing airway interventions, vital signs, blood glucose measurement, patient-specific treatments, monitoring, and interventions such as CPR, IV/IO access, defibrillation, medication administration, and mechanical ventilation, as per Moffat County EMS Protocols. They will observe, record, and report patients’ conditions and reactions to treatments to a physician or Registered Nurse. The role involves directing and coordinating patient care with other agency personnel (fire and police) and other employees. Driving the ambulance to and from scenes safely and appropriately is a key responsibility, as is communicating with physicians and medical personnel via radio or telephone. All reports, including patient care records, must be completed legibly, accurately, and by the end of the shift or within 24 hours as required. Daily assigned chores, including vehicle inspection and Operative IQ, must be performed. All duties are to be performed in a safe, courteous, confidential, and professional manner, prioritizing patient well-being. The technician will mentor, train, and encourage fellow staff, maintain response readiness, and participate in required training, meetings, and skills days. Safety and PPE equipment must be used as required. Assistance may be provided in the Emergency Department with triage, patient care, and assignments within the provider's scope of practice. Other duties as assigned will also be performed. Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
  • Must possess a clean driving record and pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check and meet insurability Guidelines (if applicable).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must not have three (3) or more violations in three years.
  • Must not have any of the following violations, regardless of the time period: Homicide involving a vehicle, Using a vehicle to elude an officer, Hit and run, Manslaughter with a vehicle, Felony with a vehicle, False report to police department, Permitting an unlicensed driver to drive.
  • Any two or more preventable accidents in 3 years.
  • Any driver convicted of any of the following within the last five years: Any alcohol or drug-related offense, including, but not limited to, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • Performs airway interventions, vital signs, blood glucose measurement, patient-specific treatments, monitoring, and interventions, including but not limited to: CPR, IV/IO access, defibrillation, medication administration, and mechanical ventilation, as per Moffat County EMS Protocols.
  • Observes, records, and reports patients’ conditions, and reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents to physician or Registered Nurse.
  • Directs and coordinates patient care with other agency (i.e., fire and police) personnel and other employees.
  • Drives ambulance to and from emergency and non-emergency scenes in a manner appropriate to dispatch direction, patient condition, and in accordance with driving laws, at all times considering due regard for the safety of self and others.
  • Communicates with the physician and other medical personnel via radio or telephone.
  • Completes all reports, including patient care records, legibly, accurately, and by the end of shift or end of every 24-hour period as required per CDPHE.
  • Completes daily assigned chores during each shift, including vehicle inspection, Operative IQ, etc.
  • Performs all duties in a safe, courteous, confidential, and professional manner, always taking into account the well-being of the patient.
  • Mentors, trains, and encourages fellow staff as needed, to help them attain their full potential.
  • Maintains response readiness consistent with Moffat County’s response criteria.
  • Participates in required training , monthly meetings, and mandatory skills days.
  • Uses safety and PPE equipment as required by law and EMS Department policies.
  • Will assist in the Emergency Department with triage, patient care, and assignments as required up to the providers scope of practice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
