About The Position

As an Advanced Composite Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will participate in all phases of product development and serve as a technical point of contact for less experienced engineers. This position supports new and existing aerospace gas turbine products, engines, and assemblies involving composite structures, bonded assemblies, and advanced material systems, and will involve approximately 10-20% travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics
  • 3 or more years of experience in composite materials or composite manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with composite fabrication methods (layup, cure, bonding, molding) and associated inspection techniques.
  • Familiarity with industry standards related to composite materials and processing.
  • Understanding of mechanical behavior of composites, failure mechanisms, and material characterization.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Materials Engineering or related field.
  • Experience qualifying composite materials or supporting aerospace composite production.
  • Experience with NADCAP audits, special processes approvals, and supplier capability assessments.
  • Hands‑on background in non-metallic materials, adhesive bonding, and surface preparation requirements.
  • Familiarity with FEA, laminate theory, and classical composite analysis methods.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to influence cross‑functional teams, and comfort interacting with internal and external suppliers.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or process‑improvement experience applied to composite manufacturing.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally.
  • Due to U.S. export control laws, must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have protected status.
  • Approximately 10–20% travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, characterize, and qualify composite material systems including prepregs, adhesives, resins, core materials, and reinforcement fabrics (carbon, glass, aramid).
  • Support composite suppliers through manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate composite defects and drive root‑cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Lead testing activities generate material allowables and validate process capability.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and ensure composite process requirements are properly flowed down to suppliers.
  • Support supplier assessments, audits, and development activities in alignment with Honeywell special process controls.
  • Partner with ISC, Quality, SDE, Design Engineering, and suppliers to resolve composite processing issues and maintain production continuity.
  • Generate and maintain process documentation, specifications, and fixed processes in alignment with Command Media and program requirements.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to early‑career engineers within Materials Engineering.
