About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) to provide immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities. ACPs operate within the knowledge and scope of the Advanced Care practice, provide leadership throughout each shift, and are responsible for decision-making, leadership, and safety of the ambulance. ACPs work alongside PCPs and EMRs daily, offering reliable and dependable insight during emergency medical situations. A high level of professionalism, communication, and knowledge is always expected due to the nature of operating in the public eye. The ACP is required to conduct themselves in a safe and discreet manner, with the responsibility of conduct justification to patients, family members, hospital staff, management, public agencies, legal courts, and more. As an employee of MHS, you are accountable to patients, coworkers, and management by supporting all safety-related initiatives and fostering a culture that focuses on patient safety and a safe workplace.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics, if applying to Lloydminster Positions
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s
  • Certified in and maintains CPR certification
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Current registration with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics (Lloydminster only)
  • FARE Certificate Required

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Operate within the knowledge and scope of the Advanced Care practice.
  • Provide leadership throughout each shift using specified educational training.
  • Be responsible for decision-making, leadership, and safety of the ambulance throughout each shift.
  • Work alongside PCPs and EMRs daily and provide reliable and dependable insight throughout emergency medical situations.
  • Conduct themselves in a safe and discreet manner, with the responsibility of conduct justification to patients, family members, hospitals staff, management, public agencies, legal court, and more.
  • Support all safety-related initiatives and foster a culture that focuses on patient safety and a safe and respectful workplace.
  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills, in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP), to deliver optimum patient care.
  • Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with MHS - West Health and Safety Manual, Operational Guidelines, and all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Stock and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness at all times.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure the safety and stabilization of the patient.
  • Work with outside agencies as a team in a coordinated effort on behalf of the patient.
  • Document all patient care, assessments, and skills, within the patient care report in a timely and legible fashion.
  • Be punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
  • Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follow the MHS - West chain of command.
  • Create and maintain fully completed patient care reports (ePCRs).
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with all provincial and federal regulations.
  • Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.
  • Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms to Director of MHS - West or designate.
  • Develop and provide continuing educational requirements as required by the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • Maintain functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines, and AHS medical control guidelines.
  • Participate actively in MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
  • Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
  • Actively participate in public awareness and community education programs approved by MHS - West.
  • Maintain professional appearance of the approved uniform, and maintain hygienic and grooming standards.

Benefits

  • Salary: $37.25 - $50.74 Hourly as per PEMS Inc/HSAA Collective Agreement
