About The Position
This position is located at Moncrief Army Health Clinic, Fort Jackson SC. Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Pract-Clinical/Psychiatric). Recruitment and Relocation incentives MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Moncrief Army Health Clinic is located on Fort Jackson, South Carolina and is part of the 82 square mile military installation located adjacent to the state capital of Columbia. Moncrief is named in honor of Colonel William Henry Moncrief, Sr., a former Army Medical Corps surgeon whose career spanned over 41 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement from active duty in 1939, Colonel Moncrief moved to Columbia where he served as Administrator of the South Carolina Sanatorium at State Park until 1954. Dedicated in 1972 as Moncrief Army Community Hospital, the clinic is a modern medical complex covering 323,000 square feet. Within the 12-story facility and its related clinics, a wide range of medical services are available, ensuring quality and comprehensive medical care. To enhance services, agreements exist between Moncrief and various universities and other health care facilities. These affiliations provide for student instruction and supervision for clinical learning experiences and an enriched spectrum of clinical modalities. The University of South Carolina, College of Nursing, and a number of college-level programs are offered through the post Education Center. Residents from the University of South Carolina Medical School, Providence Health and Prisma Health, currently rotate with several medical services at Moncrief. Excellence through education continues as Columbia has available six colleges, two seminaries and two universities.
Requirements
- Graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
- Education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
- Passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
- Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
- One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes (1) diagnosing psychiatric illnesses for beneficiaries needing psychiatric/behavioral health services; and (2) performing psychiatric evaluations to assess psychiatric/behavioral patients; and (3) prescribing medications to patients with psychiatric/behavioral health needs.

Responsibilities
- Perform full range of advanced practice nursing care duties for patients requiring psychiatric/behavioral health services.
- Evaluate new patient and existing patients on behavioral health/psychiatric needs.
- Implement mutually agreed upon solutions regarding behavioral health.
- Educate patients about risks and benefits of prescribed medications.
- Observe patients closely, evaluate and record any significant behavior and reaction patterns.
- Comply with all appropriate Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety goals, and other quality improvement projects.
- Maintain appropriate records using a computerized record keeping and coding system.
- Participate in the quality improvement system.
