About The Position

The employee in this position will provide Career and Technical Education to prisoners in the areas of Advanced Manufacturing. This program will provide students with the skills to obtain gainful employment after incarceration. The Advanced Manufacturing Instructor guides students through available curriculum resources designed for achievement of the National Institute for Metal Working (NIMS) and FANUC robotics certification. The individual also develops supplemental teaching materials as needed to promote learning; while coordinating all student assessments / progress activities, and credential testing. The instructor will stay current regarding innovations in functional technologies in order to help prepare students to appropriately enter the workforce.

Requirements

  • Possession of an associate's degree in an area of the specific trade or occupation to be taught.
  • No specific type or amount of experience is required.
  • Individuals appointed to positions that are subclass coded must possess the required specialized experience, training, or license.
  • The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of the Public Acts of 1996.
  • Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

  • Provide at least three professional references and their contact information to include phone number, address, email address and fax number.
  • Current MDOC employees must include their current supervisor as one of three professional references.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an appropriate bachelor's degree, master's degree, or vocational teacher certification may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
  • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of recent experience in the practice of the specific trade or occupation to be taught, including six months of experience training others in the trade or occupation may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
  • Some jobs require state certifications for the occupation.
