About The Position

The Adult School Crossing Guard is responsible for escorting children across designated school crossing zones, ensuring their safety and the safety of motorists. This role involves communicating effectively with children, parents, and the general public, as well as reporting any traffic or safety concerns to the appropriate authorities. The position requires a high school diploma or GED, experience working with children or in community service, and knowledge of traffic signs and safety precautions. The guard must be able to see and hear vehicles and children, lift and hold a "STOP" sign, maintain reliable transportation, and keep accurate records.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children or community service
  • Knowledge of traffic signs, hazards, and safety precautions
  • Ability to effectively communicate basic traffic instructions
  • Ability to see and hear cars and children at major crossings
  • Ability to lift and hold “STOP” sign above head
  • Ability to maintain adequate attendance
  • Ability to maintain a working relationship with children school officials, and the general public
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Must have reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Escort children across designated school crossing zones
  • Assure the safety of children and motorists
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and the general public
  • Report vehicles that fail to slow down to the proper authorities
  • Report unsafe traffic conditions in school crossing zones and suspicious vehicles or persons noticed hanging around school area
  • Communicate safety instructions and directions to students, parents, and motorists traveling through the school safety zone
  • Correctly fill out routine forms
  • Conducts other duties as assigned by Management
