About The Position

This classification is part of a two-level, flexibly staffed classification of the Adult Protective Services Worker series, Adult Protective Services Worker I and II, located in the Adult and Aging Services Department of the Social Services Agency (SSA). Employees in this classification will focus on providing protective services to the adult and elderly community within Alameda County through the adult protective services intake process. The Adult Protective Services Worker II classification is distinguished from the higher-level classification of Adult Protective Services Supervisor in that the latter is responsible for providing day-to-day first-line supervision over a group of Adult Protective Services Worker I/II.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of principles of sociology and psychology.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
  • Knowledge of available community resources and their appropriate utilization.
  • Knowledge of relevant Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and codes.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately assess situations encountered.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in determining courses of action.
  • Ability to deal effectively with hostile/aggressive clients and others contacted during work.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
