About The Position

The Waltham Public Schools is seeking two dynamic and passionate teachers for its Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) Evening Program. Teachers will provide high-quality education and support to adult learners seeking to improve their English language skills. The program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., beginning in November and continuing through the end of May. Teachers are paid $40 per hour of instruction and receive an additional half hour of compensation for each instructional hour for preparation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working with adult learners.
• Familiarity with ESL teaching methodologies.
• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of adult learners.
• Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

Nice To Haves

• A degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, interactive ESL lessons to adult learners.
• Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and interaction.
• Regularly assess students’ language proficiency and progress.
• Provide constructive feedback to support students’ language development.
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to improve students’ overall educational experience.
• Stay informed about ESL teaching best practices and incorporate them into lesson plans.
