About The Position

This is a temporary position for an Adult Education Student Support Paraprofessional. The role involves working under the supervision of the Director and/or classroom teacher to support student success in academic areas. This includes working with students individually or in small groups, building positive relationships, maintaining records, and complying with state and federal regulations. The position requires effective human relations skills and the ability to work with challenging students while maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Completed at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; OR Obtained an associate degree; OR Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment of knowledge and the ability to assist in instructing: Reading, writing and mathematics, or Reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness.
  • The use of effective and acceptable techniques of human relations in dealing with students, staff members, other school officials, and the public.
  • Must be willing to work individually and in small groups with challenging students.
  • Must be able to treat school matters as confidential information.
  • Skilled in the operation and knowledge of office machines and computers.
  • Pursuant with State of Michigan Student Safety Legislation all prospective hires must provide fingerprinting and background check results to the District prior to employment.
  • Punctuality and In-Person Attendance is essential.
  • Recommend wearing appropriate footwear or closed toed shoes.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of the Director and/or classroom teacher according to lesson plans and routines set up by the teacher.
  • Work with students on a one-to-one basis or with small groups of students in academic areas.
  • Build and maintain appropriate relationships with the students and school personnel.
  • Maintain records as indicated by classroom teacher and/or administrator.
  • Comply with state and federal record-keeping regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the classroom teacher and/or Director to support student success.
