About The Position

The Adoption Coordinator provides excellent customer service to the public while helping to find homes for homeless animals in our care and working alongside shelter staff to provide the best care for the animals. This role ensures the safety of animals, maintains accurate shelter inventory, and supports offsite adoption centers. The coordinator is responsible for ensuring all pet and adoption paperwork is in compliance with partner policies and procedures, including vaccination records, adoption contracts, and release forms. They also handle daily communication regarding pets returning to the main shelter and perform other duties as assigned by management. Additionally, the role involves interviewing prospective adopters, answering questions, providing education, and maintaining records of outgoing animals (adopted, RTO, or transferred). The Adoption Coordinator also receives and records incoming monies for shelter operations and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of adoption offices and related areas. They promote various programs and services offered by HSTB, assist potential adopters with pet visitations and selections, and make adoption follow-up calls. A significant part of the role includes daily cleaning tasks, such as scrubbing cat cages, litter boxes, and mopping, as well as processing donations.

Requirements

  • MUST be able to lift 50lbs +
  • Previous experience working with animals is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to the public.
  • Help find homes for homeless animals.
  • Work alongside shelter staff to provide the best care for animals.
  • Ensure the safety of animals, including preventing unauthorized removal from kennels or cages.
  • Maintain accurate shelter inventory reports.
  • Support offsite adoptable pet inventory at all offsite adoption centers.
  • Ensure pet and adoption paperwork is in compliance with adoption partner policy and procedures.
  • Provide daily email communication related to any pet returning to the main shelter.
  • Interview prospective adopters, answer their questions, and provide education.
  • Maintain proper records on out-going animals (adopted, returned to owner, or transferred).
  • Receive and record incoming monies for Shelter operations.
  • Keep adoption offices, hallway, windows, desks, and floors clean, dusted, swept, vacuumed, and mopped.
  • Explain and promote various programs and services offered by HSTB.
  • Assist potential adopters with pet visitations and selection.
  • Make adoption follow-up calls to adopters.
  • Perform cleaning tasks each morning, including scrubbing cat cages, litter boxes, cleaning, and mopping.
  • Process donations that come into the shelter.
