About The Position

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center, established in 2014, provides high-quality behavioral healthcare in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment. The center offers intensive residential psychiatric services for adolescents, incorporating behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric interventions. Their treatment philosophy is grounded in trauma-informed care principles and features distinct progressive phases of care. The Adolescent Residential Therapist: PRN Weekends role involves providing therapeutic services, including counseling sessions for families, individuals, and groups. Responsibilities include conducting psychological history interviews, assessing therapeutic needs, developing treatment objectives, and preparing monthly treatment summaries. The therapist serves as the primary contact and advocate for patients and families within the treatment team and acts as a liaison with outside agencies for discharge planning coordination.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, mental health counseling.
  • Current license from the State of Florida, such as LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LMFTI or LMHCI required.
  • One (1) year direct clinical experience specific to family, individual and group therapy with children and/or adolescents.
  • For specialized issues or treatment modalities, training must be specific to these; abuse reactive, sexual offending, substance abuse, sexual trauma, vocational, play therapy, art therapy and relaxation therapy.
  • Must have knowledge of human development over the life span.
  • Work is mentally demanding.
  • Extensive walking, standing and sitting.
  • Must be able to participate in the physical restraint and seclusion of patients.
  • Must be able to participate in and complete Handle With Care Training on an annual basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provides group, individual, and family therapy as scheduled and/or assigned, documenting patients'/ families' response to interventions.
  • Ensures a Psychosocial Assessment is prepared for each patient according to established time frames, assuring that all appropriate information is included and shared with treatment team members.
  • Oversees case management and discharge planning components of the patient's Master Treatment Plan and MTP reviews, documenting discussion of the plan with the patient and family as appropriate.
  • Develops appropriate aftercare plans with the patient, assessing the need and arranging for community agency support as appropriate and documenting it. Completes appointment sections of discharge sheet.
  • Reports known or suspected abuse of patients.
  • Works cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to achieve quality patient care.
