About The Position

Minnesota Oncology is seeking talented individuals who are passionate, driven, and eager to make a difference to join their dynamic team. The role involves providing exceptional care to patients by performing technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control under the supervision of a physician in a clinic admixture room. Tasks are subject to verification by a registered nurse or pharmacist. The position supports the US Oncology Compliance Program.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or other related health care experience
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology

Nice To Haves

• Graduation from VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program
• Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board Preferred (If not certified at hiring, certification with the first year of employment will be required)
• Intravenous drug and Chemotherapy compounding experience

Responsibilities

• Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
• Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
• Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
• Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
• Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
• Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
• Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
• Provide support with inventory control of medications.
• Prepares labels.
• Files and prepares billing.
• Basic data entry into department automation.
• Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
• Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
