About The Position

The Booking Clerk performs patient interviews and collects patient demographic, insurance and medical information quickly, efficiently and within the guidelines of hospital policy and the Public Hospital Act. Ensuring data integrity, the information is entered into the database (for use by Finance, Medical Records and nursing units. The position entails performing reception and bed booking responsibilities, maintaining the Central Bed Registry, implementing Bed Management Guidelines and facilitating patient placement for emergency and nursing units.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Medical terminology certificate is required.
  • Keyboard proficiency (40-45 wpm) and accurate computer data entry skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and function independently in a busy environment.
  • Demonstrate problem solving, critical thinking and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to demonstrated excellent customer service and service recovery skills.
  • Able to diplomatically respond to inquiries from staff, patients, family members and physicians.
  • Ability to respond to change management.

Nice To Haves

  • A Medical Administration diploma from a recognized college is preferred.
