About The Position

Responsible for the accurate and efficient registration of all patients while performing clerical duties required for the operation of the department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
  • Recent relevant experience within the last year is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in Medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute.
  • Demonstrated skill in data entry.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families, and healthcare workers.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
  • Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
  • Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.
  • Ability to travel between local sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate from a recognized Medical Office Administration course or related program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet all patients, and make every effort to ensure they have a positive experience.
  • Validate health card numbers with the Ministry of Health.
  • Ensure positive patient identification on all patients at time of registration.
  • Verify patient demographic information and insurance information and edit the information as required.
  • Prepare and apply identity armband on patients.
  • Register outpatients and admit patients.
  • Print outpatient charts and admission packages.
  • Pre-register patients for future appointments as required.
  • View appointments and register patients from Community Wide Scheduling.
  • Check-in patients in Ambulatory front office and schedule patients in Ambulatory that are presenting without an appointment.
  • Obtain insurance information as required.
  • Screen all patients for Acute Respiratory Illness (ARI) and Antibiotic Resistant Organism (ARO); inform infection control and receiving departments as required.
  • Alert areas of patients that were flagged as Acting Out Behaviour (AOB).
  • Direct patients to relevant areas of the hospital.
  • Update and maintain patient information systems.
  • Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  • Participate in hospital training as required.
  • Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
