About The Position

The Transfer Specialist supports the enrollment of new students by showing students how previous college work will help them complete a degree at IWU Marion. This position is focused on transfer students but also provides support to incoming freshmen as well. Secondarily, this role supports the transfer admissions counselor by assisting with general outreach (phone, email, and texting) to applicants to provide updates and encourage them to take next steps. This position supports the Registrar’s Office by evaluating transfer credits and ensuring that course equivalencies are accurately maintained.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Exceptional communication skills across multiple mediums, including written and presentation as well as with technology (phone conversation, video chat, text, email, social media, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including emotional intelligence, friendliness/warmth, and conversation skills
  • Capable of operating comfortably, effectively and efficiently in MS Office systems
  • Time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously, prioritize projects, and manage resources
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience in transfer credit evaluation, academic advising, or a related field
  • Experience in admissions, sales, case management, or marketing/communications is strongly preferred, but not required
  • Demonstration of a clear commitment to pursuing the greatest good for students and communities, including promoting student success
  • Demonstration of a clear commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Experience as an IWU alumnus or employee is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and process transfer credits for incoming students, ensuring accuracy and alignment with university policies
  • Collaborate with academic departments to maintain and update course equivalencies
  • Manage and utilize Degree Sight to provide students with answers to questions about course usage towards an IWU degree
  • Meet with families virtually on a daily basis who have questions about transferring credits to IWU or the process
  • Create and provide a “transfer dual enrollment credit” session on select general visit days
  • Initiate frequent and meaningful communication (telephone, text, social media, notes, email, etc.) with students and parents at all steps of the recruitment process
  • Engage in meaningful communication with key influencers of students, including parents, guidance personnel, pastors, and alumni to assist in recruiting
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts with student service areas, academic programs and other units (e.g. athletics, honors college, etc.)
  • Maintain updated knowledge of IWU programs, services, expectations, culture, etc. (e.g. new majors, chapel program focus, co-curricular experiences, student services processes)
  • Communicate the value of a Christ-centered education in a manner that recognizes potential students come from diverse theological backgrounds
  • Understand and effectively communicate the cost of attendance along with the return on investment of an IWU degree
