About The Position

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183-bed acute care and residential facility that has been providing behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents for over 30 years. The facility offers acute programs, adolescent residential programs, and programs for active duty military. Located in Petersburg, Virginia, the serene, nature-like setting on 25 acres aims to provide a sense of calm and peace for patients. The hospital offers hope through a nurturing environment for adults and adolescents to flourish. This role is for an Admissions RN on the Night shift. The RN is responsible and accountable for providing quality nursing care to assigned patients/residents using the nursing process, established standards of care, and relevant policies and procedures. The scope of responsibility includes the immediate supervision and coaching/mentoring of assisting personnel in performing delegated nursing care activities and unit maintenance tasks. The RN must demonstrate behaviors reflective of the mission and core values of Poplar Springs Hospital and competent professional nursing practice. Other duties as assigned. Hours will vary, and applicants must have flexibility with their availability.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • American Heart Association CPR Required (offered on-site)
  • Handle With Care Required (offered on-site)
  • Education, experience and/or training in working with patient population of unit of assignment is required either prior to employment or during an initial employment period
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the provision of quality nursing care to assigned groups of patients/residents through utilization of the nursing process, established standards of care, and relevant organizational/departmental/unit policies and procedures.
  • Immediate supervision and coaching/mentoring of assisting personnel in the performance of delegated direct/indirect nursing care activities and unit maintenance task.
  • Demonstrates behaviors reflective of the mission and core values of Poplar Springs Hospital as well as those expected of all nurses functioning at a competent level of practice in the professional role.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
