About The Position

River Oaks Hospital, located in metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana, is a private psychiatric facility for adults, adolescents and children. Since 1970, River Oaks has established a tradition of excellence in the treatment of acute psychiatric illness, dual diagnosis, alcohol and drug detoxification, trauma based disorders, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders. River Oaks has provided quality treatment to service individuals suffering from mental illness, and/or addictive disorders. Situated on a 14-acre campus, services are available at all levels of care (inpatient, day or partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient).

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum one-year psychiatric inpatient experience required.
  • Current Louisiana State Registered Nurse License
  • CPR certification and training in appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint Handle with Care before on the unit orientation and prior to assisting in a restraining process.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews medical and clinical referral information for appropriateness of admission.
  • Assesses patients through a systematic process of interacting with patient, the patient’s significant others, and the appropriate health care providers.
  • When requested, collects and analyzes data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, and anticipated discharge planning needs.
  • Participates in Emergency Services emergency codes as necessary for the department’s safe operation.
  • Completes nursing assessment for admitted patients; performs skin assessments and contraband checks and escorts patients to the floor.
  • As time permits, may be floated to the Intake department to answer phones or perform assessments of referrals for potential admission to River Oaks Hospital programs.
  • May respond to telephone and face-to-face inquiries seeking mental health care or information about River Oaks Hospital services.
  • May be utilized by House Supervisor to assist on high acuity or busy units when not performing admission assessments.
