About The Position

North Port Behavioral Health is seeking passionate Registered Nurses to work at their facility in North Port, FL. The role involves helping individuals suffering from mental health or substance use disorders. This is a brand new 144-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital offering 24-hour nursing care for those struggling with behavioral and addiction disorders. The position focuses on facilitating admissions, conducting clinical intake assessments, and managing utilization review processes to ensure patients receive the most appropriate level of care and benefit utilization. The population served includes Adolescents (13-17), Adults (18+), and Seniors (55+).

Requirements

  • Minimum of Associate’s degree in Nursing
  • Minimum one year of experience working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity, preferably within the area of specialty for the hiring facility
  • Clear and active nursing license in the state
  • CPR certification required
  • De-escalation/restraint certification required
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility
  • Must pass a Level 2 Background Screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing medical documentation for all admissions
  • Completing medication reconciliation
  • Obtaining admission orders from physicians
  • Facilitating emergency transfers for patients with emergency medical conditions outside the facility’s capabilities
  • Reviewing referrals from hospitals, facilities, and other community agencies for medical and behavioral acuity and responding within facility policy timeframes
  • Responding to inquiries about the facility and providing appropriate recommendations
  • Conducting assessments to determine the appropriate level of care within the facility
  • Collaborating with other facility medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate recommendations and admissions
  • Facilitating admissions process for incoming patients including assessment, consent, and inventory of patient belongings
  • Performing insurance benefit verifications and securing initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission
  • Monitoring patient status throughout the admissions process in accordance with facility policy and/or physician orders
  • Utilizing multiple web-based programs to track and review referrals
  • Communicating projected admissions to designated internal representatives promptly
  • Ensuring all clinical information from referral sources or patients (including medical comorbidity information) is received, when possible, prior to patient admission
  • Scheduling (when applicable) and completing pre-admission assessments
  • Consulting with the admitting physician
  • Communicating disposition recommendations to the patient or their family
  • Preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation that will result in authorization at the level of care being requested of the payor
  • Completing initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission prior to admission, when possible, and within payor timeframe guidelines
  • Admitting the patient to the registration and accounting system
  • Completing all admission and consent forms with the patient
  • Demonstrating a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers always
  • Acknowledging and working to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met
  • Recognizing that patient safety is a top priority
  • Coordinating care for patients who are not being admitted and ensuring they receive appropriate follow-up care and referrals
  • Demonstrating a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and providing excellent customer service
  • Conducting safety checks and ensuring supervision is conducted at 15-minute intervals, as noted in special precautions, or in accordance with individualized supervision guidelines as needed
