About The Position

The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (JHUSOM) Office of MD Admissions is seeking an Admissions Officer who will provide essential support to the application and evaluation process for applicants to the MD and MD/MBA programs. This position reports to the Director of Admissions, requires excellent customer service, and will also collaborate with several Johns Hopkins University and School of Medicine offices, other universities, Pre-Health advisors, vendors, and testing agencies. This role will support the admissions process by serving as the interview day coordinator and by screening application files. In addition, the Admission Officer helps organize and manage prospective student recruitment events and presentations and assists in the development of targeted communication campaigns for interested applicants. The Admissions Officer-SOM will be responsible for recruiting and conducting application review for a specified SOM academic program. The position will involve in-person and virtual recruitment, as well as some projects across the office which may include working with student volunteer groups, assisting with office programs, responding to and working with prospective students, and engaging university partners. The Admissions Officer will also be responsible for supporting roles in larger projects that work towards office priorities and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Driver’s license and personal vehicle required to attend recruitment events.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct recruitment and application review for assigned program.
  • Read and score applications using the screening rubric.
  • Build relationships and host presentations in the market.
  • Conduct information sessions, support tours as needed and respond to routine requests from prospective applicants.
  • Represent and be knowledgeable about the academics, student experience and financial aid programs at Hopkins.
  • Support programming and events staffing as assigned.
  • Manage internal and external relationships with Faculty, prospective students, current students, and University administrators.
  • Review academic prerequisite requirements for interviewed applicants and develop/document any plans to resolve prerequisite deficiencies for admitted students.
  • Maintain the Office of Admissions interview committee meeting calendar.
  • Manage interview sign-ups.
  • Assign interviewers to applicants weekly.
  • Manage the interview day environment.
  • Prepare application packages for interviewer review, ensure interviewers submit notes promptly, and manage any rescheduling of interviewer availability as needed.
  • Create, update, and maintain interview training materials.
  • Support large-scale yield event during the planning, execution, and resolution phases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Read and score applications using the MD screening rubric to help Deans of Enrollment Management determine which applicants should be invited to interview.
  • Maintain the Office of admissions interview/committee meeting calendar, manage interview sign-ups in Slate, assign interviewers to applicants each week, and manage the interview day Zoom environment.
  • Support large-scale yield event (Second Look Weekend) during the planning, execution, and resolution phases of the event as needed.
