About The Position

The Admissions Manager is responsible for the oversight of animal admission into Seattle Humane, which includes the coordination of transferring in animals for adoption for other animal welfare organizations and the intake of surrendered pets from the public. Efforts are focused on being a resource for adoptable pets in our community who are unable to stay with their family, on decreasing lifesaving gaps, and building reliable incoming sources of pets for our adopters. The Admissions Manager works under the direction of the Senior Operations Manager; Admissions and Behavior to deliver the department’s budgetary and strategic goals. They play a lead role in developing, implementing, and evaluating department programs and services. The Admissions Manager provides leadership, supports the mission, goals and philosophy of Seattle Humane.

Requirements

  • Customer service experience required, particularly with clients in highly emotional and stressful situations
  • Previous experience supervising and/or training staff and volunteers required
  • Must have excellent oral communication skills
  • Must be able to write clearly and listen effectively
  • Must possess organizational and planning skills to determine work priorities and effectively manage a budget
  • Must be able to analyze problems, create or negotiate appropriate solutions, and understand statistical information
  • Must have at least two years of employment in an animal shelter or related animal welfare experience
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Capable of being certified in (human) CPR/first aid and mental health first aid
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license with good driving record
  • Must be comfortable administering medications and injections
  • Must be able to have difficult conversations with staff, volunteers, clients, and other shelters regarding placement options and euthanasia in a sensitive manner
  • Must feel comfortable interacting with people in an escalated state and/or in varied emotional states such as sadness, anger, frustration
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to walk quickly
  • Must be able to restrain cats and dogs for medical, and perform general animal handling
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds with or without accommodation; crouch and bend at the waist and kneel; must be able to control dogs up to 200 pounds when on a leash
  • Must be able and willing and able to safely drive long distances in challenging weather conditions such as snow, rain, ice, fog, and extreme heat; must be able to drive safely in heavy traffic

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Trauma-informed care practices preferred.
  • Experience with PetPoint preferred
  • Customer service experience highly preferred
  • Bilingual a plus

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with Senior Operations Manager; Admissions and Behavior provide strategic direction for intake procedures, pathway planning, and population diversity goals for transferred and surrendered pets
  • Monitor intake trends and provide feedback and oversight regarding intake decisions.
  • Work in collaboration with other Animal Care Managers in managing the intake process, including animal population and capacity planning, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Participate in discussions regarding current animal populations, providing insights, data, and recommendations as needed.
  • Directly supervise the Admissions Supervisor
  • Work with Admissions Supervisor to supervise Admissions Coordinators, including hiring, training, scheduling, setting performance goals
  • Maintain department compliance with any safety, health and labor regulations
  • Function as Volunteer Caption for Admissions Volunteers
  • Collaborate daily with other Operations departments to address interdepartmental needs and animal cases.
  • Write or edit communication when appropriate, such as, but not limited to, memos, newsletters, SOPs, and grants for operational needs
  • Prepare and submit department reports and/or other data as requested, including, but not limited to, monthly statistics, board reports, and grant/fund tracking documentation
  • Submit department budget requests; follow established annual budget amounts for assigned department accounts.

  • Continuously contribute to the improvement of shelter services, programs, and workplace conditions by participating in meetings and offering ideas.
  • Ensure timely reporting of health, safety, or behavior concerns to maintain a secure and well-functioning department.
