About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Recruitment, the Admissions Counselor serves as a key member of the recruitment and enrollment team. This position is responsible for engaging prospective and admitted undergraduate students and their families through individual outreach, travel, and recruitment activities within an assigned territory. The Admissions Counselor builds positive, professional relationships that support enrollment goals and effectively communicates the academic, co-curricular, and student experience opportunities available at UW-River Falls. Extensive travel is required, particularly during the fall and spring recruitment seasons. Success in this role requires strong organization, attention to detail, effective time management, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks while providing consistent, high-quality service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated success building strong professional relationships and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and interest in working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel frequently and transport materials as required for recruitment events.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license meeting Wisconsin certification requirements.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from UWRF or strong familiarity with UWRF programs and services.
  • Experience working in higher education, admissions, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, and a willingness to learn and adapt to new and changing technology in enrollment management.

Responsibilities

  • Represent UW–River Falls during high school visits, college fairs, campus visits, and other recruitment and yield events within an assigned territory.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain effective communication with prospective students, families, school counselors, and other stakeholders throughout the admission and enrollment process.
  • Participate in extensive recruitment and yield travel, including evening, overnight, and weekend work, primarily during the fall and spring months.
  • Advise prospective and admitted students and their families regarding admission requirements, application processes, and the benefits of a UW‑River Falls experience.
  • Maintain knowledge of university academic programs, involvement opportunities, support services, financial aid, cost of attendance, and admissions and enrollment policies.
  • Regularly serve as Visit Host to support campus visitors and respond to prospective student inquiries.
  • Conduct timely and consistent follow-up with prospective students, applicants, and admitted students to support progress through the enrollment funnel.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records within the CRM to track recruitment activities and student interactions throughout the enrollment cycle.
  • Utilize the CRM and available data tools to implement data-informed recruitment strategies within an assigned territory.
  • Communicate regularly with campus partners to coordinate recruitment activities and support a cohesive student experience.
  • Serve as an active member of the Admissions team, working collaboratively to recruit and enroll a high-quality and diverse student population.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Creates targeted communication plans and materials based on established goals.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and responds to student applications according to established policies and procedures.
  • Identifies opportunities for and develops admissions and outreach events.
  • May supervise staff and/or lead a program area.
  • Delivers directed admissions program messaging to internal and external audiences.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Counsels prospective and admitted students on educational planning and career opportunities.
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships focusing on outreach, recruitment, and admission.
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for events to promote the Institution.
  • Engages in extensive outreach and recruitment events, representing the university to prospective students.
