Position Overview: The primary responsibility of the Admissions Counselor will be to recruit first-year students in-state and out-of-state and serve as transfer support. The counselor will engage and participate in off and on-campus recruitment events and activities, such as college fairs, high school visits, panels, and presentations in both an in-person/virtual modality (whichever is required). Additionally, the counselor will review applications holistically and efficiently. This role includes supporting the recruitment efforts of the Office of Admissions, providing exceptional customer service for students, their families, and other external and internal stakeholders. The counselor will maintain regular communication via phone, email, and in-person meetings with all stakeholders, with an emphasis on in-state and out-of-state recruitment. Finally, the Admissions Counselor assists projects that target specific recruitment cohorts (i.e. academic schools, outside vendors, etc.).

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree.
  • One year professional experience in an institution of higher education or in education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled or equivalency as determined by the appointing authority. The minimum education experience standards for positions classified under this class title will vary depending upon the requirements of the specific position to be filled. In each case, these minimums will be determined at the discretion of the appointing authority. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute required experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours is considered one year of college.) A Master's degree in a field related to the position to be filled may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Ability to interact with various levels of faculty, staff, students, and parents.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting - the ability to analyze applicant data, identify trends, and report on recruitment efforts or outcomes.
  • Experience with CRM systems.
  • Networking and Relationship-Building - the ability to develop and maintain relationships with high schools, community organizations, and other institutions to assist the office in building a pipeline of applicants.
  • Presentation and Public Speaking - Strong oral presentation skills. Must be comfortable with presenting to groups in large and small forums like recruitment events, fairs, and virtual sessions.
  • Effective organization, time management and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Admissions experience, as either an admissions professional or student ambassador, preferred.
  • Employment in a TCNJ-comparable higher education setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit students according to the recruitment practices and policies established by the college.
  • Represent the college at out-of-state (primarily NY or PA) and in-state college fairs.
  • Participate in college night/day programs in recruiting first-year students and Transfers.
  • Participate in on-campus weekday and weekend recruitment events.
  • Participate in virtual recruitment events throughout the year.
  • Efficient processing and reviewing of new entrant applications according to the standards and procedures established by the administration and the Admissions Office.
  • Utilize the CRM system to support office operational needs in terms of reporting, communications, and scholarship evaluation.
  • Engage actively with prospective families, including but not limited to answering emails and phone calls, admissions presentations to different cohorts in person and virtually, and providing customer service support.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned by the Director of Admissions that are necessary to achieve the highest quality of customer service in support of the overall mission of the office or a special cohort.
