About The Position

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking a high-energy, culturally competent, and driven Admissions Counselor to join its Enrollment Management team. This role involves guiding prospective students (first-year, transfer, adult, and graduate learners) and their families through the college admissions process. The position offers a dynamic mix of strategic independent territory management, high-impact teamwork, and travel to promote UMF. The anticipated annual salary is $45,300.32, plus an employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Genuine enthusiasm and ability to travel extensively, including flexibility for evening and weekend events.
  • Deep understanding of the unique challenges facing diverse populations and a commitment to advocating for students with marginalized identities.
  • Superb public speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to modern software and university tech platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) to Three (3) years of experience in admissions, higher education, or a closely related professional field.
  • Proven track record of connecting well with high school or college-bound students and their families.
  • Digital savvy and a knack for leveraging social media platforms to engage an audience.

Responsibilities

  • Educate prospective students, parents, and school counselors about UMF's academic programs and community.
  • Design and implement recruitment strategies to increase awareness among diverse and underrepresented student populations.
  • Manage an assigned geographic region and execute recruitment activities.
  • Review applications and conduct evaluations to assist in selecting new students.
  • Participate in on-campus recruitment events such as Open Houses and Accepted Student Days.
  • Welcome daily campus visitors and answer their questions as part of a staff rotation.
