About The Position

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is seeking an Admissions Counselor to join their team. This campus-based position will focus on prospective student recruitment and admissions counseling. The role involves utilizing data to plan and implement recruiting and outreach strategies for prospective freshmen and transfer students through in-person and virtual methods, including high school visitations and college fairs. The Admissions Counselor will guide students through the application and enrollment process, manage a specific Colorado territory, and potentially travel out-of-state for recruitment. Responsibilities also include supporting on-campus recruitment, tracking applicant data, planning and executing events to increase enrollment yield, and publicly speaking about the university's programs. The position requires developing relationships with key contacts in the assigned territory and communicating through various channels. Secondary responsibilities and other duties as assigned are also part of the role. Some night and evening work is required.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license issued by a state within the United States.
  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs has implemented a misconduct history check program with respect to final candidates for specific appointments. All final candidates to these appointments are required to complete an Authorization to Release Information and provide contact information for their previous institutions.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education setting working with students professionally or as a student assistant is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Colorado Community College System is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes data to plan and implement recruiting and outreach to prospective freshmen and transfer students.
  • Conducts in-person and virtual recruitment through high school visitations, college fairs, and other opportunities and activities.
  • Counsels and guides students with the goal of applying and attending the University.
  • Responsible for a specific Colorado territory, representing both in-person and virtually at a variety of recruitment and counseling activities (e.g., high school visits, college fairs, community college appointments, individual appointments, information sessions, and family engagement).
  • Travels out-of-state as needed to select areas to recruit students.
  • Supports on-campus recruitment efforts by taking appointments, greeting visitors, assisting with general inquiries via phone and e-mail, and supporting and processing admissions documents.
  • Responsible for tracking applicant/admit/incomplete reports related to the territory, generating ideas to guide strategies and actions to increase yield.
  • Plans and executes events in territory to convert admits to enrollment (e.g., admitted student dinner).
  • Publicly speaks, in-person and virtually, to individuals and groups of varying sizes regarding the University’s programs and campus community.
  • Prepares professional presentations (speaking and slide decks) for a variety of purposes.
  • Communicates transfer advising information to prospective students and families.
  • Guides prospective students and families through admissions counseling conversations for the best interests of the student’s success.
  • Develops relationships with key contacts (high school counselors, community college advisors, etc.) within the assigned territory.
  • Communicates through a variety of methods such as phone, email, in-person, text, and social media.
  • Performs secondary responsibilities and other duties as assigned (e.g., visit programs, assisting with development of campus tour guides, development of student assistants, assisting with technical aspects of admissions processing, and more).
