About The Position

The Admissions Clerk is responsible for efficient and courteous registration, transfer, and discharge of patients. This role serves as the general receptionist for the hospital, greeting patients and visitors in person or by phone in a courteous manner. The clerk provides general information concerning the hospital and/or patient's condition in accordance with hospital guidelines and secures signatures on documents if required. They operate the communication system, placing and answering telephone calls, paging or contacting staff, and keeping appropriate records, and assist in locating patient's families. The Admissions Clerk determines patient's needs by admitting to hospital or referring to appropriate facility and escorts patient to proper area or arranges for transportation. They maintain a roster of inpatients by names, bed number, and religious preference, reporting daily on admissions and discharges, and maintain the elective admission schedule and contacts patients when rooms are available. This role prepares all necessary records relating to admission, payment, and discharge of patient. They pull patient charts, maintain appointment schedules, handle money, and retain custody of hospital keys as required. The Admissions Clerk may assist patients in and out of vehicles, operates various office equipment, and performs cashier duties such as receipt of payment and issuance of receipts. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Three (3) to six (6) months of on-the-job training required to attain proficiency in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to operate routine office equipment, including but not limited to: Postage meter, Typewriter, Display terminal and terminal printer, Adding machine, Copy machine, Fax machine, Medifax machine, Communication systems.
  • Must type a minimum of thirty (30) words per minute accurately.
  • Strong customer service and public interaction skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to perform clerical and administrative duties efficiently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

  • Experience in dealing with the public preferred.
