About The Position

The Admissions & Career Transition Counselor is responsible for recruiting, enrolling, and supporting students throughout their Job Corps journey from initial outreach to successful job placement, retention, or transition to further education. This role ensures a seamless experience for applicants and graduates while maintaining compliance with all DOL, Center, and Equus Workforce Solutions requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, business, communications, or a related field; OR Associate degree in a related field plus two years of relevant experience.
  • One to two years of experience in admissions, counseling, youth services, workforce development, or related fields.
  • Experience working with diverse youth populations.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • English/Spanish bilingual ability is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit eligible youth for the Job Corps Program through outreach in communities, agencies, American Job Centers, and public events.
  • Conduct orientations and interviews with applicants; include parent or guardian participation when required.
  • Manage applicant files: data entry, document scanning, quality assurance checks, and compliance with enrollment procedures.
  • Coordinate with centers to arrange applicant travel and ensure a smooth onboarding process.
  • Meet departmental and center recruitment goals.
  • Assess graduates’ placement readiness and provide appropriate referrals to employment, military opportunities, further education, or training programs.
  • Ensure timely placement and retention of graduates in quality jobs or educational pathways.
  • Engage in job development outreach with employers, One-Stops, and state agencies to identify career opportunities.
  • Provide ongoing support to former enrollees, ensuring access to necessary support services.
  • Clearly communicate and consistently model strong employability and Career Success Standards (CSS) skills.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property.
  • Ensure a safe and respectful environment free of harassment, intimidation, and discrimination.
  • Adhere to all safety practices within the scope of responsibility.
  • Attend all required staff trainings and department meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
