About The Position

The Admissions Associate is responsible for welcoming visitors, selling memberships and admission tickets, and ensuring that all visitors have a positive overall Museum experience. From the front desk, they greet visitors, introduce the Museum exhibitions and activities, and collect payments. The Associate is also cross trained with the Museum Store to provide support as needed. The ideal Associate is reliable, outgoing, proactive and detail oriented. Admissions Associates have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and are trustworthy enough to handle sensitive personal information of our guests. Regular workdays are Wednesday through Sunday; generally 32-40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Accurate and reliable cash handling skills
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Work to ensure that visitor expectations are met
  • Has strong computer skills including logging on to systems, ability to communicate by email, ability to compose documents, enter and maintain database information, create reports from POS and inventory databases create presentations, download forms, and preserve/backup important data.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the programs, exhibitions, events and other activities of the Museum in order to assist visitors
  • Able to consistently achieve desired results with little supervision, show attention to detail, and possess strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • High School graduate
  • Able to regularly work weekends and many holidays
  • Regularly required to stand and sit for periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; use a computer keyboard and screen; and speak or hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a warm welcome and orientation to visitors, offering to sell or renew Museum memberships, explain and sell tickets for all Museum events and venues.
  • Provide up-to-date information on Museum exhibits and activities to enhance the visitor experience, and creatively resolve visitor issues.
  • Accurately process sales transactions through the point-of-sale systems using current practices.
  • Assist with the daily till counts and reconciliation, and produce summary sales and cash reports.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of the point-of-sale systems for both admissions and the store, including basic troubleshooting.
  • Accurate cash handling and reconciliation, and management of the bank.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the admissions and store customer sales areas.
  • Assists with the care, maintenance, and security of the Museum.
  • Additional duties as assigned in support of the Museum
