Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital (LBHH) is a 126-bed, inpatient psychiatric hospital and start-up joint venture between Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine and Universal Health Services. In addition to a general adult unit and dedicated adolescent unit, the facility offers services for treating those with co-occurring disorders on the psychiatric-medical unit, an intensive adult unit to care for those with severe conditions, as well as a women’s trauma unit. Admissions Counselors are responsible for completing the following duties and tasks: Answers telephone using the appropriate greeting and attempts to obtain all pertinent clinical, demographic and insurance information from the caller to determine caller’s needs. Keeps aware of calls waiting in the queue which require immediate attention. Performs telephonic risk screening to determine level of suicidality/homicidality with caller in crisis. Demonstrates knowledge of admission criteria for inpatient and outpatient levels of care and is able to determine appropriate service recommendations for each individual. Provides referral recommendations to appropriate resources whenever a caller is not appropriate for Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital services. Interfaces with insurance companies to obtain and/or verify eligibility and authorizations for services and relays information to the UR Department via the admission billing packet. Conducts walk-in and scheduled assessments, coordinates with the reviewing psychiatrist, and makes appropriate clinical recommendations for the individual seeking care. Conducts assessments for pre-accepted patient transfers (direct admits) coming from hospitals and other approved referral sources.
