About The Position

The Admission Counselor coordinates recruiting and admission activities for an assigned territory. This person will counsel students on the admission process; assist in the daily admission activities for Hamline University; and work with individuals and groups to achieve the University’s strategic undergraduate enrollment goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Reliable transportation to recruiting events.
  • Creative problem solver.
  • Understand the benefits of a liberal arts education within a private educational institution.
  • Demonstrated skills in: Writing, speaking, networking, and presentations.
  • Working knowledge of marketing concepts, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) databases and communication planning.
  • Ability and willingness to work with a diverse population of students.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and a sense of humor are beneficial.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without accommodations
  • Ability to work on a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to travel to on and off campus locations, including overnight and weekend travel

Nice To Haves

  • 1 -2 years experience working in an Admission office.
  • Previous experience working in a private educational institution.
  • Previous experience working with a Customer Relationship management (CRM) database.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the admission team managing a recruitment territory.
  • Implements recruitment strategies as outlined in the admissions plan in the assigned territory to include high school and/or community college visits, college fairs, area receptions, and events.
  • Initiates, plans, and executes special projects in conjunction with the goals and objectives of the office.
  • Works with community and alumni organizations that assist with the recruitment of students.
  • Delivers engaging admissions presentations for prospective students and visitors during on- and off-campus recruitment events. May also conduct campus tours when needed.
  • Helps execute large scale on-campus recruiting events, engaging with students, guests, faculty, and staff colleagues.
  • Advises students and families of admission requirements, transfer guidelines, financial aid and scholarship information, and residence life, etc.
  • Provides follow up to students and parents via phone, letters, email, and scheduled appointments in specific recruitment territory.
  • Reviews admission applications, evaluates credentials, and makes admission decisions.
  • Uses Slate CRM (Customer Relationship Management) System to manage recruitment activities, track prospective student interactions, and monitor application progress.
  • Assists colleagues as needed and contributes to the team spirit and goals.
  • Completes routine reports related to recruitment, projections, travel, special programs, and professional development.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness, assesses outcomes, and develops improved programming.
  • Adheres to University policies and procedures regarding travel and procurement.
  • Perform additional work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
