About The Position

The University of San Diego (USD) is seeking an Admission Counselor/Senior Admission Counselor for its Undergraduate Admissions department. This role will be instrumental in assisting with all aspects of the office's professional responsibilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • For Senior Admission Counselor: 3 years in college admission work experience required.
  • For Admission Counselor: 1 year in college admission or relevant work experience required.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills (both written and oral).
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable in a team-oriented, collaborative work environment.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to learn and work with technology, specifically word processing environments, internet navigation, databases, and e-mail correspondence.
  • Knowledge of the University of San Diego and its programs.
  • A commitment to the University’s mission.
  • Sensitivity towards people of diverse social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to travel (including air travel) for up to two (2) consecutive weeks.
  • Nights and weekends are required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and making decisions on admission applications, including calculating GPAs, analyzing course difficulty and school competitiveness, and quantifying essays, recommendations, and extracurricular activities.
  • Identifying applicants eligible for merit and special scholarships and making recommendations.
  • Participating in committee decision-making and discussions regarding admissions.
  • Assisting Operations staff with processing and maintaining applicant records, resolving issues within assigned territories.
  • Communicating with families and school counselors throughout the admission process.
  • Planning and managing recruiting efforts in assigned territories, including presentations at high schools, college fairs, interviews, and alumni meetings.
  • Deciding on school visits, fairs to attend, and reception locations based on data analysis.
  • Scheduling and coordinating all visits, fairs, and receptions.
  • Counseling prospective students and families about admission, financial aid, academic programs, and campus life.
  • Conducting workshops for outreach groups on college planning and the higher education system.
  • Serving on panels to discuss admission practices and policies.
  • Meeting with campus visitors, conducting information sessions, and meeting individually with families or counselors.
  • Providing front desk coverage as needed.
  • Assisting with Domestic & International Transfer Student Advising.
  • Coordinating admission events and special projects.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
