About The Position

Entry level position, responsible for recruitment and evaluation of prospective students. This position supports any and all student diversity and access initiatives, including Questbridge and Posse student recruitment. Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 0 to 1 years experience
  • Driver's License
  • The ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute several key projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work independently, have strong organizational and planning skills, excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Required strong analytical and technological skills including experience with MS Office and Google Suites, CRM platforms and the ability to learn Slate CRM and Workday systems specifically.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team, interact with people of all backgrounds and use sound judgement, creativity and vision.
  • Must hold valid driver’s license and be able and willing to travel by both car and airplane.
  • High comfort level with public speaking to large and small groups.
  • Able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a college admission office and with public speaking preferred.
  • Individuals should be able to demonstrate fluidity with a variety of software and database management platforms.
  • Proficient in language other than English, especially Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Develop extensive knowledge about Smith College and present on-campus and virtual information sessions regularly.
  • Plan and coordinate approximately 6 - 8 weeks of travel annually to recruit students and manage an assigned geographic territory determined by application and enrollment data.
  • Develop knowledge of secondary schools throughout an assigned recruitment territory, visit secondary schools and attend college fairs as assigned.
  • Initiate and maintain effective communication between Smith College and college counselors from a diverse range of high schools.
  • Manage correspondence and conversations with students, parents, counselors, community based organizations and other constituencies.
  • Contribute to office initiatives, including project-based work, as assigned under supervisor guidance.
  • Read, evaluate, and participate in admission committee work to decide on admissibility for admission to the college in coordination with a team of colleagues under the direction of the Dean of Admission.
  • Candidates may include first-year and transfer applicants as well as students applying through Questbridge and Posse programs.
  • Attend and support on-campus and virtual recruitment and yield activities as assigned, including leading workshops and moderating panels under supervisory guidance.
  • Represent the interests of recruiting and enrolling a diverse class on any assigned teams.
  • Develop skills and networks and pursue professional development opportunities to better understand current issues and challenges in the field of admission and in Higher Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
