About The Position

The University of Southern Maine’s Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education seeks a part-time (20-hours/week) Administrative Specialist. This Administrative Specialist will provide essential direct support to the Osher Map Library’s Executive Director, Dr. Libby Bischof, by coordinating scheduling, travel, procurement, donor and community partner correspondence, and project-based work, including complex annual reporting, Board meeting preparation, and exhibition and event planning and support. The Administrative Specialist will also work closely with the Osher Map Library Operations and Communications Coordinator. The Osher Map Library [https://usm.maine.edu/osher-map-library/] serves as a dynamic hub for teaching, research, and public engagement. As one of the busiest special collections in North America, the Library hosts more than 200 university classes annually, engages over 10,000 K–12 students across multiple locations, and sponsors a robust portfolio of exhibitions, public and community programs, fellowships, and research initiatives that bring the history and art of cartography to diverse audiences. Through fellowships, research opportunities, and innovative educational initiatives, the library advances geographic literacy and fosters interdisciplinary learning at the University of Southern Maine and beyond. Located on our Portland Campus, this is a part-time, 20-hours/week position that will pay $21.09/hour (non-negotiable) for a new hire or the appropriate transfer rate for a current employee with the University of Maine System. This position is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to gain operational and support experience in a busy library, archive, and museum setting.

Requirements

  • 60 credits or more of higher education or equivalent work experience and training.
  • Three years’ administrative experience.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency.
